Ben has over 20 years’ experience in the Mining industry having undertaken geological modelling, mine planning, pit optimisation and scheduling work throughout many of the world’s largest coal mines including PT Kaltim Prima Coal in Indonesia, PT Bukit Asam and PT Arutmin.

Ben has worked in Gold, Coal, Oil Shale, Porphyry Copper, Bauxite, Phosphate, Nickel Laterites, Mineral sands and Explosives sectors. He has also designed and implemented mine planning systems and customised specific software solutions to suit various mine planning and operational complexities in the 15 years he provided high end consulting services globally. Ben’s technical specialties include pit optimisation and design, equipment selection and application, productivity improvement studies, LOM scheduling, Landform and haulage modelling as well as JORC resource and reserve reporting.
Ben has established detailed cost models and undertaken Lerch Grossman optimisation studies for many of the largest coal mines in Indonesia and also in South America at El Cerrejon mine. He has experience in conceptual, prefeasibility and feasibility level studies and has worked with mining companies to develop study standards appropriate for each level of study. Ben has been the JORC signatory on a large number of reserve statements in both NSW and Queensland and been involved in several due diligence studies reporting to the financial sector.
