John is a mining engineer, senior mining consultant and strategic problem-solver with more than 30 years of resources industry experience.

John came to Xenith in 2009, bringing significant experience in delivering exceptional business outcomes for the open-cut coal mining sector in Australia since 1992.

About John

With specialised knowledge of multi seam operations in the Bowen Basin and Hunter Valley, John draws on extensive dragline and truck shovel stripping knowledge to develop studies from concept to feasibility, life of mine plans, technical evaluations and optimisation studies.

John’s finely honed project management skills frequently showcase his excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and technical abilities.

John’s dedicated approach involves working with clients to identify challenges and produce practical, high-value solutions that meet budgets and timeframes while exceeding expectations.

Aside from his project work, John makes an important management and business development contribution to Xenith as a consulting team leader and driver of new business.

  • LOM planning: Identification of key value drivers, capability analysis and strategy development, fulfilling client corporate objectives.
  • JORC Reserve Estimation: Reserve Statements in accordance with JORC guidelines.
  • Margin ranking: Maximisation of reserves through margin ranking, identifying best margin to guide pit progress.
  • Project management: Ensure project delivery through strong communication, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills, meeting key milestones, deadlines and budget.
  • Scheduling: Detailed scheduling in mines with multiple draglines and pre-strip fleets to meet coal production targets.
  • Design: Development of pit designs for multi-seam operations, suitable for dragline or truck and shovel methods.
  • Mid-term planning: Optimisation of mining operations to achieve key targets and continuous improvement.
  • Rehabilitation/final landform planning: Development of PRCP plans and ERC estimates, underpinned with practical development of final landform reshaping, quantifying volumes, distances and costs.

Career highlights

  • Xenith: Completion of a prefeasibility study that combined both brownfield and greenfield elements to enable the client to have confidence in the decision to progress the preferred option.
  • Provided accurate and timely evaluation of a number of contract mine operation tender submissions on behalf of a client, enabling them to act with confidence upon John’s recommendation for choice of contractor.
  • Developed and project managed concept mine plans for numerous clients, creating plans and completing projects that successfully exploited the value of the deposits, delivering complete client satisfaction.
  • Developed and project managed Life-of-Mine plans for clients, realigning mine layouts that maximised the value of the deposits, delivering complete client satisfaction.
  • BMA: Developed two new pits that maximised resource recovery for the mine, requiring pit design, infrastructure design, creek diversions and project management.
