Mark is a highly experienced mining engineer and expert problem-solver with a unique ability to map pathways, always with a view of the bigger picture, that lead to positive commercial outcomes.

Mark is one of the longest serving members of the Xenith team, having joined the company in 2010. He specialises in mine planning, mine design and leading technical studies.

About Mark

Day to day, Mark manages planning, strategy and technical projects for clients while also leading one of Xenith’s key consulting teams out of the Brisbane office.

With comprehensive experience in mine site engineering, operations, contract management and consulting, Mark has demonstrated abilities as an effective team leader, mentor and reliable contributor to achieving corporate targets.

Mark has a background working in gold and coal mines, more recently branching out into metals to further develop his resources expertise.

Mark’s greatest strengths are his attention to detail, his ability to problem solve and think outside the box.

He enjoys the variety and the challenge of managing large, complex projects with many moving parts and finding solutions that satisfy all elements, from operations, finance and geology to environment and compliance conditions.

On a personal note…

Mark has four children and lives on 10 acres in the northern Noosa hinterland.

  • Planning: Able to develop medium and long term plans that align with the strategic plan; short term production scheduling and planning of mining operations to extract maximum value.
  • Pit optimisation: Defining optimal economic pit limits utilising industry leading software.
  • Reserve generation: Generation of mining reserves for input into Mine Planning packages.
  • Design: Development of short, medium and long term pit and dump designs for mine site operations.
  • Coal quality: Able to manage site coal quality initiatives, create coal blending plans to meet customer’s specifications and develop product strategies to maximise profitability.
  • Computer proficiency: Deswik Suite including CAD, LHS, Landform Engineering and Pseudoflow Optimiser, SPRY, XPAC, BlendOpt, Vulcan, Xact, Talpac, MS Project and Microsoft Suite.

Career highlights

  • Xenith Consulting: Mark has worked on over 200 different projects since joining Xenith. He has project managed large projects such as the Winchelsea Island Manganese Project Concept and Feasibility Studies, Meandu 2021 LOM Plan, Boggabri Coal Mine Resource Development Plan and Ensham Final Landform Studies while also being an integral part of many other projects.
  • Kogan Creek Mine: As Project Engineer played a critical role in the successful development of this 2.8 Mtpa coal mine from a greenfield mining project to a steady state mining operation, having a strong focus on coal quality and resource recovery.
